It seems as though the past can open a world of new creations for designers lately, as Alexander Wang is the latest to look into past archives to garner his inspiration. The collections have always been proposed to the same woman; stylish, regal women. The collection combined elements of couture, in cocoon coats, rounded jackets in tweeds and windowpane checks.
There's certainly a polished quality to this collection which really signifies Wang coming into his own at Balenciaga. The collection is trimmed with regalia in the jewelled brooches and pins. Alexander used colour throughout this collection and the belts as collars made for an exciting new take on a firm code of the house. The nods to the Balenciaga archives and references to original silhouettes was a strong move and certainly one that will carry favour with the hardcore of the fashion-pack.
